Before You Go: Peru
Peru is a journey of layers: of altitude, of history, of clothing. Here is how to prepare for all three.

Weather
October is spring in the Andes. Days in the Sacred Valley and Cusco are mild and often sunny, nights are cold, and afternoon showers are possible. Lima is cool and often overcast.
What to Pack
Layers: t-shirts, a warm sweater, and a jacket for cold evenings.
A light rain jacket.
Comfortable walking shoes with good grip for stone steps.
A hat, sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen. The sun is strong at altitude.
A reusable water bottle.
Your passport on the day of Machu Picchu. It is required at the entrance.
Money
The currency is the Peruvian sol. Cards are accepted in hotels and restaurants, and cash is useful in markets. Tips and gratuities are included in your journey.
Entry Requirements
U.S. passport holders do not need a visa for tourist visits to Peru. Rules change, so always confirm with official sources before you travel. Travel and medical insurance is mandatory on all our journeys.
Health
Talk to your doctor or a travel clinic a few weeks before departure about recommended vaccines and any personal medication.
